BMW ista-d ista-p Windows 7 install:

Step 1: ISTA-D Diagnosis software
Open software
Double click RHEINGOLD icon to change Full Screen

Go to Operations, then Read Out Vehicle Data, press Complete identification
Follow ISTA prompt to connect the ICOM emulator with vehicle

When it shows BMW ICOM, you can click lower right corner Connect to start diagnosis. (If the Status shows firmware, you see update ICOM firmware first, see instruction in Part 5)

Step 2: ISTA-P Programming software
Open ISTA-P software
Click “Reset Settings” tab then close
Open it again

Select ISTA-P language and Resolution

Check the resolution on desktop, it is the same as ISTA-P resolution you just chose.

Select vehicle type, BMW, MINI, BMW Motorcycle or Rolls Royce
Select ISTA-P server automatically

Step 3: ETK
Open ETK software
Click “Extras” tab>> “Settings” to change language and other settings

Configuration is done. Start using engineering software (INPA, WinKFP, etc.)

After the Windows 10 update (which failed the first two attempts because it turned out the BIOS needed an update first) most applications were fine.

By simply revisiting the COM port settings for my K + DCAN USB to set back to COM9 , minimum buffer sizes and minimum latency Rheingold ran perfectly.

Loader V3.2 and ISTA-P was a bit more tricky. I re-ran the Network Config Tool. I tried Loader V4.3. No joy. However I did it nicely and ISTA-P runs nicely too, and with the excellent Loader V4.3 .

—> The setting was to go into Network Settings , select the USB Loopback which has been renamed ” Ethernet 2 ” and rename it to “USB” then go into its settings just like you would ENET lead and set the IPV4 IP to 169.254.0.8 with a mask of 255.255.0.0

Question: Where (what path) do you place the SDP contents to support flashing from ISTA?  Also, where do you place the BLP contents as well?

In summary,

It depends on your purpose (diagnostic or coding or programming) and model (Exx or Fxx or others).

For Coding, you need different Tools, NCS Expert / SP-Daten for E-Series and E-Sys / PSdZData for F-Series.

All Diagnosis and Coding can be done with cheap DCAN Cable for E-Series and cheap ENET Cable for F-Series.

For Programming (Flashing ECU’s with new Firmware), then you need ISTA/P for for both E-Series and F-Series cars, or you can use WinKFP for E-Series and E-Sys for F-Series. For E-Series Programming, you will need an ICOM, but for F-Series Programming, you can use ENET Cable.

please help me with some advice!

Reply 1: Both of these have the same hardware. None of them are clones of anything also. A3 is fully china version of ICOM, there is no original version looking like this crap. NEXT is just looking as genuine NEXT, but with old A1/A2 hardware inside, like A3.

Reply 2: I recommend buying an original Icom next. It is priced roughly at 500 euro. Take in consideration that you will probably work on cars that are worth 30-40k euro or maybe more and if your chinese icom fails you even once, you will be spending a lot of money on a bricked ecu.

Reply 3: You can have a Icom Next HQ clone if you don’t have much budget of it. This tool handles multiprogramming and coding quite nicely, much faster in BMW F and G series and if flashing the complete vehicle. It supports gigabit Ethernet too to be future proof, there currently is not gigabit Ethernet protocol defined yet for autos. will be compatibility for future cars. Also, it has a better wifi card and USB3.0 instead of USB2.0 (USB 3.0 is theoretically more than ten times faster than USB 2.0. We need usb 2.0 or usb 3.0 flash drive formatted with FAT32.)

HOW TO DO DIAGNOSTICS USING ISTA+

How to start the ISTA workshop system:

Double click the BMW diagnostic software ISTA+  icon in the Windows desktop created during the installation process above. After ISTA is started, the start screen appears. A list of news is displayed. You can set the display period in the Administration.

Once you have read the “Note on using ISTA”, close the dialog using the button “Next”. You can open a process from the start screen: Select the “Operations” menu.

SELECTING A VEHICLE WITHOUT CABLE CONNECTED TO CAR

Method 1:

You can enter your short VIN (Last 7 of the VIN) and be able to pull relevant procedures or troubleshooting instructions without actually connecting to the car. To access this feature, launch ISTA+ and click on Operations tab (1). Then enter the short VIN into the VIN box (2). Then click on Accept (3). The Accept button will become active only when a VIN number is entered. You can explore features specific to your car from here.

SELECTING A VEHICLE VIA “READ OUT VEHICLE DATA” WITH CABLE CONNECTED TO CAR

After you select the “Operations” menu from the start screen, the workshop system changes to the “Vehicle identification number” tab under the “New” menu item.

We will assume that you have connected the right interface to the car at this time (Refer to interfaces section). Our example will use BMW ICOM A2+B+C.

This is how to identify a vehicle by reading out the vehicle data, while automatically creating a process:

1 Click the “Operations” main menu item in the navigation area.

2 Select the “Read out vehicle data” tab and follow the instructions provided.

3 Click the “Identification without vehicle test” or “Complete identification”button

The connection to the vehicle is now established. The workshop system performs an identification of the vehicle. It also reads the vehicle identification number and further data from the vehicle. The progress of the identification operation is displayed on a progress bar.

Start vehicle test

If vehicle identification was called up via “Read out vehicle data” and “Complete identification”, the vehicle test starts automatically following vehicle identification, followed by the vehicle operation and service data transfer and analysis. The control unit tree is displayed during the vehicle test

Here you can observe the ongoing determination of the control units that are fitted. If no control unit tree is available, the “Control unit list” mask is displayed automatically.

The control unit tree contains all the control units identified in the vehicle and displays their allocation to the relevant bus system. The control units are identified in succession and their fault memories are read out. The color then changes to display of the detected state. An explanation of the colors can be found in the lower section of the displayed mask. From this screen, if required you can restart the vehicle test or also call up control unit functions so that you can read out measurements or activate actuating elements.

Before you can access a test plan you must first display the fault memory. This is how to view the fault memory:

1 Wait until the vehicle test is completed.

2 Click the “Display fault memory” button.

After the vehicle test, click the “Display fault memory” button in the “Fault memory” mask. The fault codes that are read out and the associated description are listed here.

The function “Delete fault memory” can be carried out at the end of the guided troubleshooting. In order to start the guided troubleshooting, first calculate a test plan.

This is how to calculate a test plan:

Click the “Calculate test plan” button.

Processing the test plan

The test plan lists the components and functions that might have caused the fault. The documents and test modules corresponding to the components and functions are displayed in the “Type” column, identified with “ABL”. In the “Type” column, documents and test modules are identified with an abbreviation.

Procedures localize a fault and give advice on rectifying it. This is how you start a procedure:

1 Select the required procedure from the test plan.

2 Click the “Display” button.

The priority in the test plan does not necessarily specify the call-up of the processes. The priority is to be regarded as a recommendation for processing.

A test module is primarily designed to identify the cause of a fault. Furthermore, service functions can be performed via procedures. Information can be displayed within a test module, as well as measured values read out or entered. Furthermore, queries can be made available in procedures via selection screens.

After a test module has been carried out, additional information is added to the test plan if this is necessary for further troubleshooting or fault elimination.

For the newest Rheingold/ ista+ 2016, it is a must to update the BMW diagnostic tool firmware to the latest; otherwise, it would fail to diagnosis or do programming on BMW vehicles.

How to update ICOM A A2 system 01.25.02  application  01.40.05?
1.Connect ICOM A1 / ICOM A2 to PC via wired network connection.
Connect ICOM A1 / ICOM A2 emulator to the vehicle or power on the emulator via 12V power adapter.

2. Open Internet Explorer
for icom a1/a2 common version, go to http://169.254.92.38:60080/
User name: root
Password: NZY11502
for icom a2 super version, go to http://169.254.33.45:60080/
User name: root
Password: NZY1150263

3.Click “Update Firmware“, to get the ICOM firmware version.

4.Select file “ICOM-BootImage-01-25-02.bin”, to set image type as SYSTEM, then click “Send the file”.

5.Prompt: Write the image file to the flash?
Select Yes, and the light on ICOM mux will turn red.

6 .Prompt: The SYSTEM IMAGE update was successful.
Click “Update Firmware”.

7. Select file “ICOM-ApplicationImage-01-40-05.bin”, to set image type as APPLICATION, and then click “Send the file”.
(several minutes needed)

8. Prompt: Write the image file to the flash?
Select Yes, and the light on BMW ICOM A+B+C mux will turn red for the second time.

9 .When all is ok, click “reboot“.
NOTE: change the local network connection, that is, set automatically obtain local network connection

Two update files are available. Use the small-size first, then the big-size.
When using the small-size file, select SYSTEM.
When using the big-size file, select APPLICATION.

BMW ICOM A2 ISTA-P Not Registered Was Resolved by Cnautotool

when bmw icom A2 ISTA-P work(via loader) but ISTA-D won’t. you can catch the belows factors.

1.System information:
windos 7 X86 in VM, X64 physical,4GB RAM, 180+HDD,.NET Framework 4.5 newest Flash/shockwave(..),”ISTA_SYS_3.48.20.13322.msi”

If we open BMW ICOM ISTA-D We’re getting the message:

code: Attention-This device has not been registered

If we change the following line from “true”to “false”

code: <add key=”BMW.Rheingold.CoreFramework.ILeanActive”value=”false”/>

We get an other window than the not registered:

If we go on  there are fields for name/E-mail/Comment. After that it shows an key, which should be sent via mail to them. Below there is an field for a license. we also copied the license from an other and earlier version(3.44.30 which seems to be update only) in this field but still can’t click on the next button which is greyed out.

The ISPI Admin client shows all installed.

After We’ve read it never would activate in a VMware VM I’ve installed it on a physical machine but same problems there.

Solution:

The only thing you need to do is run the “ID.reg” file so it will add some info to the registry. After this, ISTA/D should work fine.

Get the file from here. unpack it and double click it.
